Different Types of Fields in a Form

Everything you need to know about the different parameters you can use to design your forms

All fields share a common foundation. You must provide the question name, whether the field is mandatory or not, and an optional description.

Short Answer

Define the format of the short answer in the Response Settings as well as customization options:

  • Text: Set the length (minimum and maximum) and character type, as well as a default value if necessary.

  • Number: Configure a minimum or maximum value, specify a specific number, or set a default value.

  • Calendar: Choose from formats such as "DateOnly," "DateAndTime," and "TimeOnly," with an option for a default value.

You can also add a prefix, suffix, or informational text to guide the user in filling out the field.

Phone

The phone field is optimized for easy input and practical use on mobile devices:

  • Phone Format: When a user selects this field, the numeric keyboard automatically opens to facilitate number input.

  • Clickable Number: Once the number is entered, it becomes a clickable link, allowing direct contact with the collaborator from a mobile device.

Email

The email field is designed to facilitate interaction with email addresses:

  • Format Validation: The field checks that the entered address follows the standard email format, including "@domainname."

  • Clickable Email: Once the email address is entered, it becomes clickable, allowing direct email communication with the person concerned from a mobile device.

Paragraph

Use this field only for long responses. It is not possible to limit the number of characters.

Single or Multiple Choice

Click the "Add an Option" icon to enter the different available choices and configure your field:

  • Default Value: Set a default value that will be displayed automatically when the form is created.

  • Display Mode: Choose whether you prefer the choices to be displayed via radio buttons or with a dropdown list.

Control

This field is recommended for controls as it allows for pre-configured responses with different display types.

  • Control Format: Choose between "Ko/OK" or "Ko/Neutral/OK" as response options.

  • Field Format: Select from "With Value," "With Check," or "With Emoji." It is recommended to choose "With Check," which is more visual.

  • Default Value: Define the default value that will be selected when the form is created.

  • "Non-Applicable" Option: Enable "Allow non-applicable" to allow the user not to fill out the control.

Signature

The signature field in Finalcad is designed to add an authentication and validation dimension to forms:

  • Signature Function: Allows users to sign the form directly.

  • Timestamp and Identification: Each signature is accompanied by a timestamp and the name of the current user.

  • Permanent Character: Once added, the signature and its associated information cannot be deleted.

Attachment

The attachment field offers the flexibility to attach files to forms:

  • Allowed Formats: You can specify whether all file formats are allowed or only photos can be attached.

Multiple Responses (Grid)

The multiple responses field, also known as "Grid," offers great flexibility. It allows users to add as many responses as they want to a sub-form.

  • Uses: Ideal for taking photos or creating attendance lists.

  • Configuration:

    1. Define the main question.

    2. Choose the response type.

    3. Use the "Use the response as a sub-form title" option if necessary in the settings to the right of the sub-question.

    4. Each field can be configured as on the main form.

  • Example of Attendance List:

    1. Add different sub-questions (such as "Name," "Phone," "Signature").

    2. Access the options for each sub-question via the gear icon.

Note: The number of sub-questions you can add is unlimited, providing great flexibility in creating custom forms.
